the tree house..

if you were a kid it would be a tree house, now it’s “casa sull’albero”(means tree house). an eco-friendly dream stay of glass and wood! 12 minimally designed, spacious rooms surrounded by green and quiet. rising above lake Como; stop and enjoy the breathtaking view. or, how about some artworks(Alan Rankle paintings) hanging on the walls or lying all around you(Michela Milani frames)?

breakfast is served! milk, cheeses, cured meats and fruits from nearby farms. honesty kitchen is a very reassuring, feel like home term that lets you satisfy your basic food and drink needs on your own terms(open 24/7). just go easy on the “eataly” snacks you little rascals. oh, and remember to note down all the consumed goodies.

a waking dream..

have you ever felt like dreaming while you are awake? well if you haven’t, i can help. there is a dream place in Andros sparsely covered with vegetation, surrounded by a river leading to the sea; a magical wetland! in this area you will find a unique settlement with the rather appropriate name “onar”(means dream in Greek). ten environmentally friendly traditional houses solely made of stone, wood and reeds stand before you. after reviewing the elegant, minimal furnishing lie in your outdoor hammock a bit. it’s all about you, nature and God now.

there is also a story behind a bridge there, called Christopher’s. a story including a rather unlucky wedding proposal plan, but you better ask Makis the owner about it.

following the river path you will find yourself facing one of the most beautiful beaches ever; Achla. just pebbles and crystal clear waters.

or you can take it to the next level and ask the two master chefs Mr. Giannis Stanitsas and Mr. Nikos Koufonikolakos for some magical noodles with fresh tuna, spaghetti with slender rockfish and fried bananas for dessert.

if breakfast is your favorite meal of the day, prepare yourselves for some ultra healthy yogurt with nuts, seeds, tahini(oil paste made from sesame seeds) and raisins, or a sinful traditional froutalia(omelette with sausages and potatoes) and pancakes with chocolate/banana filling. i mostly went for the last two!

i guess i saved the best for last; you can also enjoy a nice barbeque at the beach, catch your own fish or try some fresh urchins(just add some lemon).

a mansion where the music carries far..

Makrinitsa aka the balcony of Pelion, is a picturesque village with a unique view and position. there you can mostly find beautiful and wealthy old mansions. one of these houses dated back at 1750 is now operating as a guesthouse. “sisilianou mansion” blends perfectly traditional with contemporary elements. rumor has it that it was named after the nickname of its first owner which was a great singer like some famous Sicilian songbirds! when you first arrive you will be given a warm welcome and a hot cup of herb tea full of aromas. then you will be accommodated in one of the minimal, rustique style rooms which are in perfect harmony with the natural surroundings. in the morning you will be served a homemade breakfast with pies and jams made by the hoteliers. if you are a nature enthusiast i would suggest a mushroom hunting in the wild. ask Anna and her father for directions. at night you can enjoy a lovely dinner at the restaurants nearby and return to the hotel for one of the most refreshing sleeps ever! so go my friends and let the happy vibes of this charming old place get to you.
